Cleaning Your Paint Gun Lines

Properly maintaining your paint gun lines is essential to making sure it operates properly. While many people use an acetone cleaner, this can have adverse effects on the environment.

Acrastrip offers an aqueous, eco-friendly acetone alternative that effectively cleans your paint gun lines, whether it is a pressure pot, HVLP, gravity-fed, or another method.

How to Clean a Paint Gun Line

Cleaning your paint spray gun after each use is recommended, but the method for cleaning your paint gun lines will differ depending on the type you are using. For each type, Acrastrip works as an excellent cleaning alternative without the health hazards of an acetone-based solvent.

Pressure Pot Paint Gun Feeder

To clean a pressure pot paint gun line you need to first remove any pressure in the pot. Next, pull the pressure relief valve then take off the air hose.  Pull the top of the pressure pot off by loosening the pressure ring and then remove the inside liner.

Once the liner is removed, fill the pressure pot with an acetone replacement cleaner/Polychem Acrastrip and re-pressurize the pot. Pull the trigger and flush the lines until you get chops followed by air. Continue running the air for about 20-30 seconds once the fluid stops to allow for an air scrub. Once this happens, disassemble the spray gun again and wipe down the pressure pot with the Polychem Acrastrip.

High Volume, Low Pressure (HVLP) and Gravity Fed Paint Gun Feeder

To clean an HVLP paint gun line, fill the paint cup with AcraStrip acetone alternative cleaner and securely fasten the cup/lid/line.

Pull the trigger to flush the lines, and then remove the lid and pour the cleaner out, pulling the trigger to make sure every ounce of the cleaner is emptied.

Once the paint line is empty, dip a rag in a small amount of AcraStrip cleaner and thoroughly wipe down the inside of the HVLP paint feeder. Unscrew the gravity-fed cup from the gun and wipe down the outside of the paint gun feeder as well.

Paint Kitchen and Paint Mixing Rooms

Paint kitchens need to meet NFPA 33 standards and provide clean, safe areas for mixing, storing, and feeding paint to paint spray guns. The best way to maintain proper paint mixing room conditions is to clean the room regularly with solvent to ensure no dust or particles mix with the paint.

Before cleaning or performing any activity in your paint kitchen, ensure the room has a proper ventilation system. Fresh air should constantly be moving through the paint mixing room to make sure you are never inhaling dangerous vapors.

While an acetone cleaner could be used to remove dirt and paint from the paint kitchen, using an acetone replacement cleaner like the Acrastrip which provides a safe eco-friendly alternative without the hazards associated with solvents.
